Vassilakis Kumquat is a distillery and factory of kumquat products in the village of Agios Ioannis Parelia in central Corfu. The premises are open to visitors who can taste their unique products and shop for souvenirs in the factory store.
History Of Vassilakis
In 1959, Theodoros Vassilakis started a small shop in Corfu Town where he sold dry nuts and sweets. Within two years, he also opened a store in Athens from where he started distributing his products nationwide. Around this time the entrepreneur also acquired a distillery license.
In 1966, Vassilakis built the distillery and winery in its current location in Agios Ioannis. In 1980, he expanded his business to Kefalonia where he started cultivating vineyards and producing wines.
In 1990, Theodoros Vassilakis opened a cellar and exhibition next to the Achilleion in Gastouri. Nowadays, this location functions as a brand shop and snack bar.
In 2000, Vassilakis started exporting its products to the Netherlands and Germany. Nowadays, the products are shipped worldwide.
Vassilakis Products
Vassilakis not only produces kumquat liqueur and wine, but also several other alcoholic beverages and a whole range of other traditional Corfiote and Greek products.
The alcoholic beverage range includes the traditional kumquat liqueur, but also limoncello, ouzo, several flavors of colada (incl. pineapple, banana, strawberry, kumquat, coffee) and a selection of wines (red, white, and rose).
Vassilakis also produces a range of traditional sweets, including kumquat spoonsweets, loukoumi, mandola, nougat, and fig pies. Other sweet products include jam and honey.
Other products in their range are olive oil and perfumes.
