Mesongi Beach is situated in the homonymous village of Mesongi, a popular resort town on the east coast of southern Corfu. The beach and village are named after the Mesongi River, which separates the village from Moraitika.
The beach is very popular, but slightly less crowded than the neighboring Moraitika Beach.
How To Get To Mesongi Beach
Mesongi Beach is located right in front of the village and off National Road 23 (Corfu Town – Lefkimmi). It can be reached on foot, with a private vehicle, like a rental car, scooter, or boat, or by public transport.
The beach is literally at the doorstep of most accommodations in the village and from the main road, it’s only a 200-meter walk to the beach. To get there from the neighboring Moraitika Beach, you’ll need to walk back to the main road first in order to cross the river.
By car, Mesongi Beach is a 9-kilometer drive from Benitses, 21 kilometers from Corfu Town, and 23 kilometers from the Port of Lefkimmi. There is no parking lot at the beach, so you’ll need to find a space to park somewhere in the surrounding streets.
You can also get to Mesongi Beach by public transport as there is a bus stop right next to the beach. Green Bus lines B7 and B11 connect it with Corfu Town and several other villages along the way.
Beach Description
Mesongi Beach is oriented towards the northeastern direction and looks out at the mainland of Greece at the horizon. The beach stretches out along a bay between the river mouth in the north and the southern outskirts of the village. The beach has a length of approximately 650 meters and an average width of about 5 meters.
The beach and seabed have a combination of sand and pebbles. The seabed has a gentle slope and for the first few meters, the bathing water remains shallow. The only potential source of pollution comes from the Mesonghi River which flows into the sea at the northern end of the beach, but any pollution is rare and usually short lived. In general, the water is beautifully blue, very clear, and calm, providing the perfect conditions for swimming.
The area behind the beach is fully developed with a large resort hotel, several other guest accommodations, and a few bars and restaurant, but there is also some sparse vegetation. To the south, the beach looks out on beautiful green hills.
Mesongi Beach can get busy in the summer, but it’s not as packed as Moraitika Beach, resulting in a much more tranquil atmosphere.
Facilities At Mesongi Beach
Mesonghi Beach is organized and has several facilities, including sunbeds and umbrellas for rent, showers, waste bins, and several beach bars and restaurants.
You can also find some water sports at Mesonghi Beach, including pedal boats, peddle boards, kayaks, and inflatable rides. You can also rent small motor boats there, and at the riverside boat tours are offered to various destinations.
