Kanouli Beach is a wild, unspoiled beach near the village of Agios Mattheos, on the west coast of southern Corfu. The beach is a quiet alternative to the more popular neighboring Prasoudi Beach.
How To Get To Kanouli Beach
Kanouli Beach is situated on the opposite side of the mountain from Agios Mattheos and can best be reached with a private vehicle, like a rental car, scooter, or boat.
By car, Kanouli Beach is a 5.5-kilometer drive from Agios Mattheos and 27 kilometers from Corfu Town. There is a small grass field near the beach where you can park.
If you enjoy hiking, you can also make a beautiful scenic hike from Agios Mattheos to the beach. On the way, you can also visit the Pantokrator Monastery from where you have the most stunning views over the island.
Unfortunately, there is no public transport to Kanouli Beach.
Beach Description
Kanouli Beach is oriented towards the southwestern direction and has no shade at all. The beach has a length of approximately 200 meters and an average width of 10 meters.
The beach and seabed have a combination of sand and pebbles. The seabed has a gentle slope and for the first few meters, the bathing water has a normal depth. The water is very clear and relatively calm and therefore perfect for swimming.
The beach is somewhat secluded because the land behind the beach is situated at a higher elevation. The environment is completely unspoiled and the beach is therefore a great place to relax without any crowds.
Kanouli Beach is also hidden out of sight from the more popular neighboring Prasoudi Beach to the north.
Facilities At Kanouli Beach
Kanouli Beach is unorganized and has no facilities at all, so you’ll have to bring your own supplies for a beach day. The nearest place to get any food or drinks is at the neighboring Prasoudi Beach.
