Benitses Beach is the joint name for a number of beach areas in Benitses, a popular seaside village on the east coast of central Corfu. With its urban location and central location, the beach has all the amenities of a resort town, and has good road access and bus connections, so it’s probably no surprise that it’s among the most popular beaches on the island.
How To Get To Benitses Beach
Benitses Beach is situated along National Road 23 (Corfu Town – Lefkimmi), the main road through Benitses. It can be reached on foot, with a private vehicle, like a rental car, scooter, or boat, or by public transport.
By car, Benitses Beach is a 12-kilometer drive from Corfu Town, which usually takes around 20 minutes. There’s free roadside parking, and there’s a free parking area to the south of the Benitses Marina.
Getting to Benitses Beach by public transport is also very easy, as there are several bus stops along the beach. The easiest and most frequent route is Corfu City Bus line 6 which connects Benitses with Corfu Town, but several southbound Green Buses also pass by the beach.
Beach Description
Benitses Beach is oriented towards the eastern direction and looks out at the mainland of Greece on the horizon. The beach can be roughly divided into three separate parts.
To the north of the Benitses Marina, there’s an undeveloped beach with a length of approximately 200 meters, and an average width of 5 meters. This beach is lesser-known and somewhat hidden from the road by dense vegetation. From the main road, the beach can be reached via a concrete staircase.
A second beach with a length of approximately 100 meters can be found at the southern side of the marina. This triangular-shaped beach is situated directly next to the main road and has no seclusion, yet it is very popular due to its central location.
A bit further to the south, directly after the parking area is the start of the third beach, which stretches along a bay, and continues for a bit around the corner. The entire length of this beach is approximately 600 meters, with an average width of 10 meters. This area is fully developped with hotels, guest houses and restaurants.
All parts of Benitses Beach are pebbled, and the seabed has a gentle slope. For the first few meters, the bathing water has a normal depth. The main source of potential pollution is from the boats in the marina, although this rarely affects the water quality at the beach and is usually short lived. In general, the water is very clear and calm, making it great for swimming.
Benitses has all the amenities of a resort town and is therefore a popular holiday destination, so the beaches can get very busy in the summer.
Facilities At Benitses Beach
Benitses Beach is fully organized between the marina and the southern end of the village and has many facilities including sunbeds and umbrellas for rent, showers, trash bins, and several beach bars, and restaurants. More restaurants, bars, and shops can also be found on the road parallel to the beach.
There are also motor boats for rent and a variety of water sports, including peddle boards and different types of inflatable rides.
The beach north of the marina is unorganized and has no facilities at all.
