Skalia Beach is a quiet but beautiful virgin beach near the village of Kritika on the west coast of southern Corfu. The beach is part of the almost continuous stretch of sand beaches on the largely unspoiled coastline between the Korission Lagoon and the island’s southern edge.
How To Get To Skalia Beach
Skalia Beach is situated below the historic village of Kritika and can best be reached on foot, or with a private vehicle, like a rental car, scooter, or boat.
From Kritika, it’s a steep 1.7-kilometer walk or drive to Skalia Beach. From Kavos, it’s 11 kilometers, and from Corfu Town 43 kilometers. Before you reach the beach, there is a sharp hairpin bend from where you have a stunning view of the beach. The road is paved until the last few hundred meters. The last part is also very steep and gets worse nearer to the beach, so you might want to park on the side of the road and walk the final part.
Unfortunately, there is no public transport to Skalia Beach. The nearest bus stop is in Kritika from where Green Bus line B3 connects the village with Corfu Town.
Beach Description
Skalia Beach is oriented towards the southwestern direction, which is great for watching the sunset, but the beach doesn’t have any shade during most of the day.
The beach has a length of approximately 220 meters and an average width of almost 15 meters. The beach and seabed are sandy with some occadional rocks.
The seabed has a gentle slope and for the first few meters the bathing water has a normal depth. The water is very clear and relatively calm, making it very suitable for swimming.
The coastline at Skalia Beach is completely natural with no constructions. The area behind the beach consists of rocky hills partly covered by dense green vegetation.
Because Skalia Beach is completely undeveloped and somewhat harder to reach it is lesser known and usually quiet even in the summer. It is therefore perfect for nature lovers who want to escape the crowds and enjoy the beautiful environment in peace.
Facilities At Skalia Beach
Skalia Beach is completely unorganized and has no facilities at all, so you’ll have to bring your own drinks, snacks, and other supplies if you go there. Definitely bring plenty of water, because the nearest place to get anything is back in Kritika.
