The Platytera Monastery, also called the Holy Monastery of the Most Holy Mother of God Platytera, is a Greek Orthodox monastery in the Mandouki neighborhood of Corfu Town.
The monastery was founded in 1741 by the Leucadian monk Chrysanthos Syropoulos and construction was completed in 1743 when Corfu was still under Venetian rule. During the Siege of Corfu (1798-1799) the monastery got severely damaged by the Ottomans, after which it was restored again.
Platytera Monastery has a tall and remarkable bell tower and a nice patio and garden. Inside the monastery is the burial place of the first Governor of Greece, Corfiote Ioannis Kapodistrias, his brother Augoustinas, and his father Antonios-Maria. Another important historic figure buried in the monastery is Fotis Tzavellas, a hero of the Greek Revolution.
Platytera Monastery celebrates yearly on August 15th, the feast of the Assumption of the Most Holy Theotokos.
