The Monastery Of Agia Aikaterini (Saint Catherine) is an abandoned orthodox monastery in the forest near the Antinioti Lagoon on the north coast of Corfu.
The monastery is located near Antinioti West Beach and can be reached via a small path through the forest. This lesser-known heritage is a real hidden gem that many people miss. Unfortunately, the monastery is in an advanced state of decay and has started to become overgrown, but that also makes it exciting to explore.
The Monastery Of Agia Aikaterini is thought to date back to the 11th century and was once a thriving center of religious life. The complex consists of multiple buildings, including a church, a bell tower, and a refectory. The current church was built in 1713, according to the inscription above the entrance.
The most exciting building is the church, and although its roof has collapsed, you can still admire several beautiful fresco paintings of icons on its interior walls and other ornate decorations.
