Lazaris is a brand of kumquat liquor and other products made from the typical Corfiote fruit. The distillery and factory are located in Souleika, near Corfu Town, and can be visited to taste and buy the products.
History Of Lazaris
In the 1960s, the first kumquat fruits were imported from China and have since been grown locally in Corfu. Since the island has the perfect climate to grow the small citrus fruit, the kumquat quickly became a hit and nowadays it is seen as the typical fruit of Corfu.
Inspired by the versatile culinary possibilities of the kumquat, Konstantinos Lazaris founded the Lazaris Distillery & Artisan Sweets company in 2005. Since then a wide range of products have been launched that are handmade in small batches and without any preservatives.
Lazaris Products
Lazaris’ most famous product is the traditional kumquat liqueur, but the distillery is also producing limoncello and both products are also available as a creamy version. Other product from the destillery include a range of kumquat bitters, gin, and ouzo, the national drink of Greece. They also have variants of the kumquat liqueur with coffee or ouzo.
Lazaris also makes a range of other products from kumquats, and other traditional Corfiote and Greek products. Among the range are kumquat marmelade, kumquat spoon sweets, nougat, mandola, loukoumi, fig pie, chutney, and honey.
