The Kremasti Chuch is a Greek Orthodox church on Kremasti Square in the historic Campiello quarter of Corfu Town.
The church is dedicated to the Virgin Mary but got its name ‘Kremasti’ (hung out) from the oil lamp hanging out in front of a fresco depicting the Virgin Mary that has since faded away. Inside the church, you can admire unique fresco paintings, a beautiful marble iconostasis, and other decorative elements.
In the center of Kremasti Square, named after the church, you can see a 17th-century Venetian well. The well was donated by Antonios Kokkinis in 1669 and is elegantly decorated with beautiful relief sculptures. It is one of several remaining wells used to store water before the city was provided with water by the construction of an aqueduct under British rule.
