The Jewish Holocaust Memorial is a monument on Konstantinou Palaiologou Square in the former Jewish quarter of the historic center of Corfu Town.
Jewish Holocaust Memorial commemorates the roughly 2,000 Jews of Corfu who lost their lives during World War II. During the Holocaust, around 2,000 Jews were transported from Corfu to nazi concentration camps in Auschwitz and Birkenau, where they were extinguished.
The monument was installed in 2001 at the initiative of the Municipality and the Jewish Community of Corfu. The monument consists of a large stone base with a bronze ensemble of statues depicting a Jewish family with two small kids.
At the end of the war, the entire Jewish community of Corfu had been wiped out. Since then, only a handful of Jews have returned to the island, and the community now consists of only around 60 people.
Only a short walk away from the monument you can also visit the Jewish Synagogue, the only surviving Jewish house of prayer.
