Danilia Village is an open-air museum replicating a historical Corfiote village. The uninhabited village is a popular tourist attraction, but also the filming location of the TV series The Durells and several movies.
History Of Danilia Village
Originally, there was a village named Bouas, but in 1953 the village was almost completely destroyed by an earthquake. In the 1970s, two brothers of the Boua family took the initiative to rebuild the village in the traditional Venetian style as a film decor and museum.
For three seasons, Danilia Village was featured in the popular British TV series The Durells (2016-2019), which stole the hearts of many Britons who now come to Corfu to visit the filming location. Scenes of the James Bond movie For Your Eyes Only (1981) were also filmed in the village and more recently the village was featured in the movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 (2023).
When the owners passed away, Danilia Village was taken over by Grecotel, which operates several resort hotels in Corfu. For years it was closed, but in 2022 it reopened to the public as a museum. The park is also used as a venue for weddings and other celebrations and activities.
Visiting Danilia Village
Visitors to Danilia Village can enjoy a walk through the small village which consists of one main street that stretches between two squares. On both sides you can admire the facades of buildings with a typical architecture of a traditional Corfiote village of the 1930s.
Several of the buildings are open to visit and showcase the traditional crafts of Corfu, including olive oil production, wine making, and porcelain making. There is also a vineyard, a church and a folkore museum showcasing a collection of ethnographic objects, like traditional costumes, farming equipment, household tools, a weaving mill, historic furniture, and decorations.
The village also houses several souvenir shops selling traditional Corfiote products like olive oil, porcelain, lether sandals, kumquat liqueur, and wine.
There is also a cafeteria with an outdoor terrace to have a drink while enjoying the views of the village and there’s a traditional taverna where you can indulge in the delicious Corfiote and Greek cuisine.
