Akoli Beach is one of the largest unspoiled beaches of Erimitis, an area of unparalleled natural beauty with green hills, wetlands, and secluded bays on the east coast of northern Corfu. The beach is situated in a bay in front of the Akoli Pond, one of the small lakes in the area.
How To Get To Akoli Beach
Due to its remote location in the nature reserve of Erimitis, there is no road access to Akoli Beach. The only way to reach it is by boat or on foot.
To get to Akoli Beach overland, you can follow one of several hiking trails through Erimitis. The shortest trail to this beach starts next to the military radar tower at the hairpin in the road through the nature reserve. Another trail connects Akoli Beach with Avlaki in the north and Agios Stefanos Sinion in the south. Both routes are beautiful and lead you along more virgin beaches.
Beach Description
Akoli Beach is one of the largest beaches in Erimitis with a length of approximately 300 meters and an average width of about 5 meters. The beach is secluded in a bay and oriented towards the northeast. The beach and seabed are pebbled and have a gentle slope, so for the first few meters, the bathing water is shallow.
Only a few meters behind the beach, but slightly hidden behind dense vegetation lies the Akoli Pond where you can often spot migratory birds. The area is surrounded by hills and lush green vegetation, making the area a remote paradise of tranquility.
Facilties At Akoli Beach
Akoli Beach is unorganized and has no facilities, so you’ll have to bring your own supplies. You really can’t get any food or drinks nearby so make sure to bring plenty of water, especially if you embark on a hike through Erimitis.
