Agios Georgios Beach in the south, not to be confused with the similarly named beach in the north, is a long sand beach in the village of Agios Georgios Argyrades, on the west coast of southern Corfu. Among locals, the beach is also known as Lakkies Beach.
The beach is part of a larger stretch of sand beaches between the Korission Lagoon and the island’s southern edge.
How To Get To Agios Georgios Argyrades Beach
Agios Georgios Beach is situated in the southeastern part of Agios Georgios Argyrades and can be reached on foot, with a private vehicle, like a rental car, scooter, or boat, or by public transport.
The beach starts about 1.3 kilometers southeast of the port, so you can easily walk there from the village.
By car, Agios Georgios Argyrades Beach is a 31-kilometer drive from Corfu Town. You can park along the road that runs parallel to the beach.
You can also get to Agios Georgios Beach by public transport as Green Bus lines B5 and B6 connect the village with Corfu Town. The bus stop is, however, on the northwestern side of the village, a 1.8-kilometer walk from the northern end of the beach.
Beach Description
Agios Georgios Argyrades Beach is oriented towards the southwestern direction and has no shade at all. The beach starts in in the southeastern part of the village and stretches out over a length of about 1.3 kilometers, after which it continues as Marathias Beach. The beach has an average width of about 20 meters.
The beach and seabed are mostly sandy, with some pebbles and larger stone, especially on the northwestern end. The seabed has a gentle slope and for the first few meters, the bathing water is shallow. Although there can be some wind in this area, the water is still relatively calm, very clear and perfect for swimming.
The coastline is mostly natural and behind the beach there is some shrubby vegetation. Being located away from the center of the village, the beach has a somewhat remote character and with its length there is ample space. The beach is therefore perfect for families with kids and other people who love a relatively quiet environment.
Facilities At Agios Georgios Argyrades Beach
Only some parts of Agios Georgios Beach are organized. While the southern part has no facilities, there are a few tavernas on and near the beach in the northern part. There you can also rent sunbeds and umbrellas, and there are showers, toilets, and trash bins.
