The Church of Saints Anthony and Andrew is a Greek Orthodox church on Nikiforou Theotoki Street in the historic center of Corfu Town. It was first built in the 14th century and is considered the oldest church in the historic Venetian town. Over time, it has gone through several renovations and modifications before it got its current appearance.
One of the most important events in the history of the church was a mass held by Patriarch Joseph II of Constantinople, which was attended by the Byzantine Emperor John VIII in 1439. Both were on their way to a congress in Florence when they made a stop in Corfu.
In 1753, the church was completely rebuilt, which radically changed its appearance. The marble iconostasis also dates from this time, and the masterpiece created by the Corfiote architect Alexander Trivoli-Pierri is considered the most beautiful one in Corfu. Inside the church, you can also see the Byzantine icons depicting scenes from the Apocalypse of John.
