The Municipal Gallery of Corfu, officially the Municipal Gallery of Corfu and the Diapontian Islands, is a public art gallery housed in the eastern wing of the Palace of Saints Michael and George in Corfu Town.
The Municipal Gallery of Corfu was founded in 1991 and was initially housed elsewhere before moving into the historic palace in 1995. The museum houses a permanent collection of mainly 19th-century Corfiote art but also organizes periodic themed exhibitions and temporary exhibitions of works by young artists, art lectures, book presentations, and concerts.
The permanent collection of the Municipal Gallery of Corfu mainly comes from donations including the Samartizis Collection (42 works), the Aglaia Pappa Collection (23 works), and the Philippos Markotsis Collection (12 works). Over time the collection has grown as more donations were made and the municipality has also made several purchases.
The Palace of Saints Michael and George also houses the Corfu Museum of Asian Art, which also provides access to some beautifully decorated halls of the historic palace.
