Agios Spiridon Beach, not to be confused with Agios Spiridon Beach in Perithia, is the largest and most popular beach in Paleokastritsa, the popular seaside village on the west coast of central Corfu. The beach is named after the Church of Agios Spiridon which is located next it it, although the beach is also often referred to simply as Paleokastritsa Beach.
How To Get To Agios Spiridon Beach
Agios Spiridon Beach can easily be reached on foot from other parts of the village, or from further away with a private vehicle, like a rental car, scooter, or boat, or by public transport.
By car, Agios Spiridon Beach is a 23-kilometer drive from Corfu Town. There is a large, paid parking lot on the opposite side of the road and free parking is also available further away along the road through the village.
There is a bus stop right next to the beach. Green Bus lines A9 and A10 connect Paleokastritsa with Corfu Town and line S6, which only runs during the summer months, with Nissaki.
Beach Description
Agios Spiridon Beach is situated in the Paleokastritsa Bay, between the Palaiochora Peninsula and the peninsula with the Paleokastritsa Monastery. This does not give the beach much of a secluded character, because it is next to the road, but the views are amazing.
The beach is oriented towards the southern direction and stretches out over a length of approximately 200 meters, with an average width of about 5 meters. The beach and seabed are mostly sandy. The beach bed has a somewhat steep slope and for the first few meters, the bathing water has a normal depth.
The only potential source of pollution at Agios Spiridon Beach is from boats mooring here, but pollution happens rarely and is usually short lived. Normally the water is perfectly clear and beautifully turqoise so it’s perfect for swimming.
The beach is immensely popular, so during the busy summer season it gets packed with sunbathers.
Facilities At Agios Spiridon Beach
Agios Spiridon Beach is organized and has several facilities, including sunbeds and umbrellas for rent, showers, trash bins, and several bars and restaurants. More restaurants and bars can also be found in close proximity.
Water sports are also available and include pedal boats, kayaks, and stand-up-paddling. Boat trips are also offered from here, including the romantic Paleokastritsa Paradise Sunset Cruise.
