Porto Timoni Beach is a twin beach in the beautiful recreational area on the Porto Timoni peninsula near the historic village of Afionas, on the west coast of northern Corfu. The beach is immensely popular for its beautiful serene environment, its crystal clear turquoise waters, and the spectacular viewpoints in the area.
How To Get To Porto Timoni Beach
Porto Timoni Beach is remotely located in the pristine environment of the Porto Timoni peninsula and can only be reached on foot or by boat.
The nearest to the beach you can get by private transportation, like a rental car or scooter, is the village of Afionas. The village is a 2.5-kilometer drive from Agios Georgios Pagon, 22 kilometers from Paleokastritsa, and 35 kilometers from Corfu Town. There are two paid parking lots, one right before, and one inside the village. You can also park for free alongside the road before you enter the village, but spaces are limited.
The nearest bus stop is at the Church of Ioannis Prodromos in Afionas. Green Bus line A6 connects Afionas with Arillas, Sidari, and Corfu Town, and line A7 runs via Agios Georgios, Pagoi, and Skripero to Corfu Town.
From the village, it’s a 1-kilometer walk to the beach. The path is steep with some rocky parts, so the journey can easily take around 30 minutes. It’s definitely recommended to take your time and enjoy the views along the way as well. You can also make a small detour to a viewpoint with a spectacular view from right above the beach.
Another, easier way to get there, is by boat. At the nearby Agios Georgios Beach, there are taxi boats running back and forth to Porto Timoni Beach.
Beach Description
The area of Porto Timoni is an unspoiled natural environment which consists of a rocky peninsula covered with green vegetation. The peninsula has several small bays, coves and sea caves. The largest bay almost cuts off the southern part of the peninsula from the main land, but a narrow strip keeps it connected. This narrow piece of land has a beach on each side. The twin beach is known as Porto Timoni Beach.
Both beaches are equally beautiful while one is oriented towards the east, facing Agios Georgios Bay, and the other towards the west, facing the bay of Porto Timoni. From the twin beach, the path continues on to a third beach in the southwestern corner of the bay, which is oriented towards the northeast.
The beaches at Porto Timoni consist of sand and pebbles, and some larger stones and rocks. The beach bed has a gentle slope and for the first few meters the bathing water is shallow.
The beaches are not very large and none of them exceeds 50 meters in length and because of their popularity they can get packed in the summer. The third beach is however much more quiet, so if you want to excape the crowds at the twin beach, you can take a walk there.
Another path leads up the hill in the south, where you can visit the Chapel of Agios Stylianos. which is situated in a small cave.
Facilities At Porto Timoni Beach
Porto Timoni Beach is organized but has very few facilities. There are sunbeds and umbrellas for rent and you can rent small motor boats, pedal boats and kayaks, but there are no toilets or showers.
There is also no bar or restaurant at the beach, so you’ll have to bring your own food and drinks. It’s recommended to bring plenty of water, because it’s a long and steep walk to the beach and back so you’ll sweat a lot, especially on a hot summer day.
The nearest bars and restaurants are in the village of Affionas.
