How To Get To And Visit Cape Drastis
Cape Drastis is situated in a remote area on the northern coast of Corfu, about 1.5 kilometers north of the village of Peroulades. The best way to get there is by boat, but it can also be reached overland by foot, or with a private vehicle, like a rental car, or scooter.
The easiest way to get to Cape Drastis is by boat as the area is harder to access over land and the beautiful sand beaches are only accessible by boat. With a boat, you can easily explore the different bays, go for a swim, relax at one of the most stunning beaches, and enjoy the views from different sides.
Overland, the only accessible parts are some of the cliffs, from where you have stunning views from above, and the Gravas Cove on the eastern side of the cape.
To get there by car, it’s a 4.5-kilometer drive from Sidari and 40 kilometers from Corfu Town. From the Church of Agios Nikolaos in Peroulades, a narrow road leads towards the cape. For the first 700 meters, the road is asphalted, but after that, the remaining 1 kilometer is a dirt road that is very steep and not in a good state. Most people park alongside the asphalted road and continue their descent on foot.
Near the end of the asphalted road, there is a short path to the edge of the cliffs. It’s definitely recommended to check this out for the stunning views you have from there.
The walk down (and back up) to the cave is steep so on a hot summer day you’ll be sweating a lot, so bring plenty of water to stay hydrated.
Description Of Cape Drastis And The Beaches
The coastal area of Cape Drastis is a protected natural environment without any constructions. The serene landscape consists of high limestone cliffs with green vegetation, some small rocky islets, and several bays with sand beaches.
The formation of Cape Drastis goes back thousands of years. Over time, the wind and seawater have gradually eroded the limestone cliffs which has resulted in the formation of bays, small coves, and sea caves.
Below the dramatic sea cliffs are some hidden virgin beaches of unparalleled beauty. The beaches and seabed are sandy. The seabed has a gentle slope at each of the beaches and the bathing water is shallow for the first few meters. What makes these beaches extra special is that they are completely unspoiled and only reachable by boat, which means they are very quiet too.
Gravas Cove is the only area at Cape Drastis where you can reach the sea overland. Although not a real beach, it’s a popular area for sunbathing at the limestone rocks, and for swimming.
Facilities At Cape Drastis
The beaches at Cape Drastis are completely unspoiled and unorganized so there are no any facilities at all. If you take a boat trip there, you’ll have to bring your own food and drinks.
Only Gravas Cove, which can be reached overland, has a small bar selling drinks. From there, you can also rent a kayak to discover the cape by yourself, or take a boat trip around the cape and to Canal d’Amour.
