Megas Choros Beach is a virgin sand beach near the village of Vitalades on the west coast of southern Corfu. The beach is part of a longer stretch of sand beaches between the Korission Lagoon and the island’s southern edge. Due to its remote location and lack of development, the beach is usually quiet.
How To Get To Megas Choros Beach
Megas Choros Beach is located near the village of Vitalades and can best be reached with a private vehicle, like a rental car, scooter, or boat.
By car, Megas Choros Beach is a 37-kilometer drive from Corfu Town, 11 kilometers from the Port of Lefkimmi, and 3.5 kilometers from Vitalades. From the village, only the first part of the road is paved. After the road becomes sandy, it gets steeper as well, so depending on your vehicle and how comfortable you are to drive down this challenging road, you can either continue all the way to the beach or park somewhere and walk down the last part.
Unfortunately, there is no public transport to Megas Choros Beach. The nearest bus stop is in Vitalades from where Green Bus line B1 connects the village with Kavos and Corfu Town.
Beach Description
Megas Choros Beach is oriented towards the southwestern direction and doesn’t offer any shade. The beach has a length of approximately 420 meters and an average width of around 15 meters.
The beach and seabed are mostly sandy with some occasional larger stones. The seabed has a gentle slope and for the first few meters, the bathing water is relatively shallow. The water is very clear with only some minor waves providing great conditions for swimming.
The entire coast at Megas Choras Beach is undeveloped and unspoiled. The hills behind the beach are green with tall and dense vegetation, creating a natural atmosphere. The unspoiled character makes the beach a perfect getaway into nature, away from the crowds. It’s usually quiet even in the summer and there’s ample space to relax.
Facilities At Megas Choros Beach
Megas Choros Beach is unorganized and has no facilities at all, so you’ll have to bring your own food, drinks, and other supplies for a beach day. Please make sure to take your trash with you when you leave.
