Platakia Beach is one of the beaches in the popular seaside village of Paleokastritsa, on the west coast of central Corfu. The beach is somewhat hidden and harder to find, but that doesn’t make it less popular.
How To Get To Platakia Beach
Platakia Beach is centrally located in Paleokastritsa, next to Veredosa Beach and right below the main road through the village. It can easily be reached on foot from other parts of the village, or from further away with a private vehicle, like a rental car, scooter, or boat, or by public transport.
By car, Platakia Beach is a 22-kilometer drive from Corfu Town. The beach has no parking lot, so you’ll have to find a spot somewhere along the road.
The nearest bus stop is on the same road, just a short walk away. Green Bus lines A9 and A10 connect Paleokastritsa with Corfu Town and line S6, which only runs during the summer months, with Nisaki.
The beach can be somewhat hard to find as there are no signs, but there are two entrances. The easiest way is to go to Dolphin Restaurant and enter the beach from there. The other option is to enter the beach from the other side. Next to the stairs that lead to Veredosa Beach, there’s a small road that leads to an abandoned building. To the west of the building, there’s a path to Platakia Beach.
Beach Description
Platakia Beach is situated in a bay and is oriented towards the southeastern direction. The beach has a length of approximately 70 meters and an average width of about 5 meters.
The beach and beach bed are covered with fine pebbles and some larger stones and rocks. The seabed has a gentle slope and for the first few meters, the bathing water is shallow.
Platakia Beach is a bit of a hidden gem because it is more secluded than other beaches in Paleokastritsa. Behind the beach are some guest houses, but also a lot of vegetation. Despite its hidden location, it can still get busy at this beach, which is popular for sunbathing and swimming.
Facilities At Platakia Beach
Platakia Beach is unorganized and has no facilities. Dolphin is the only restaurant at the beach, but in close proximity, you can find many more bars and restaurants.
